Open Question: I'm building a computer, will it be able to go on the internet?

I'm in the process of buying parts to build a computer, and this may be a dumb question, but I got to thinking, what do I plug my internet cable into? I would be using a network cable most likely or is there other choices??? I'm just not sure where I would plug the cord into. Is there something included in the motherboard, or would I have to buy something else to enable my computer to go on the internet. I'll be playing call of duty online so... I need to know what I have to buy just to get my computer online. Here's a list of what I have ready to order....do I need an additional part to get on the internet, or does a network cable already plug into something I already have? Resolved Question: Why can't we find a good home in this market-REPOST?

REPOSTING THIS QUESTION FOR MORE RESULTS AND CLAIRIFICATION. As we all know, there are probably more houses for sale or in foreclosure now than at any other time. There are MANY options and my wife and I have been looking for almost a year now both off and online and personal visited over 50 homes. We are looking in the western burbs of Chicago, west of 355, but east of rt59. So far, there are major issues with every house. We are keeping many options open and have a limitless price range, we don't need or necessary want a really big house, but we also are looking to up size a bit from out 2000sqft townhouse to a single family home, but so far we are striking out. We have seen new million dollar+ homes and 100 year old fixer uppers and nothing works. What we have noticed is this: if the house is nice its in a bad location, i.e, under major power lines, on a 4 lane busy road, squeezed in a space so small there is no grass at all. If the location is nice, there are no homes available or the one that is, was poorly designed and built and almost always brand new and therefore not worth tearing down (we are not the kind of people to do a tear down). We have also seen a big new houses that are the only one in a neighborhood of small run down homes. Now, when we look in areas and neighborhoods that we would love to live in, there are no homes fore sale. We ran into this problem several years ago duing the housing bubble, the were no homes available in the areas we wanted to live in, and there are still none. So we had to settle for the place we bought, because at that time, if you didn't by the first home you saw at that very moment, it was already too late and someone else bought it. We had that happen nearly a dozen times, we liked a place and wanted to go back the next weekend to see it one more time, but it was already sold, so we had to just jump on this place the moment it went on the market. It almost seems that people who bought in desirable locations did just before the bubble and are not caught up in this mess. During the bubble, builders were frantically building homes in every nook and cranny they could find. These homes 'look' nice, but when you actually look at them, they are all show and no substance and the areas are crappy. It seems that now that the bubble burst, the only homes available are those built during the bubble or ones in run down areas that people frantically bought up. Anyways, we are just very disappointed because it seems we will just have to settle again for whatever is out there instead of finding the perfect match. I know we haven't been looking for several years yet, but still, it seems we should have better choices in this market. We really are not very picky, but we can't find a decent house in a decent area, its either a great house in a crappy location or a crappy house smaller than our townhome in a great location. We have thought about building, but there are no available lots left that we can find, at least any that are not off major highways or are so small you can't fit a 1000 sft house and a yard, its one or the other. Any thoughts at whats going on? We are about ready to just give up and stay here to have our family because it's just too depressing and disappointing to keep on looking. The area we are in now is not kid friendly, in fact the neighborhood frowns on children, yes we moved into a sudo retirement area without realizing it was one. This is why we want to move, but we just don't feel like we should have to settle, when others didn't.  more

Resolved Question: Relocating to Ottawa...Where should I move?

I'll be moving from Toronto to Ottawa very shortly and I really need some help distinguishing which areas are good to live in. I'm trying to find a nice suburban neighbourhood in which to purchase a new home and my online research (googling lol) indicates that the main areas are Kanata, Stittsville, Barrhaven and Orleans. I'm looking for suggestions based on the following criteria: -'Classy'/Desirable area. After we sell our current home in Toronto we don't intend to move again so whatever we get in Ottawa will be our last home purchase. That being the case, we want to buy in an area that will have longevity in terms of property values, well-rounded neighbours/community etc. Our price range is mid 400's to high 400's -Family friendly (good schools, quiet but has activities/recreation) -Shops/restaurants etc close by -Not 'overdeveloped' with tonnes of people moving in and a concrete jungle feel. We'd like a community that still has a bit of character/individuality. The other unknown is commuting. My husband works from home so commuting is not an issue for him but I don't know where my place of employment will be yet but as long as I can get around in 30-45 minutes that's fine. Also, I found something vague online about a dump or something like that in Stittsville area. I've seen some nice homes there on builder webpages, but I don't know anything about the dump or where it's located. Any help would really be appreciated! :)  more

Resolved Question: Reduced Housing Price when under contract,IL?

My husband and I are under contract and building a house. We haven't closed yet but the builders reduced the base price of the homes by about 7,000. I mentioned this to my mom and she said that in Illinois by law if you are under contract and they lower the price they have to give you the lower price if you haven't closed yet. Is this true? Where can i find this online to print off for my builder as proof?  more

Resolved Question: How come they get hired? I work harder!?

I perfectly understand that the economy is in terrible shape. I've been looking for a job for like 3 months now. I've applied at over 50 locations. Everything from Target to Macy's to McDonald's to BK to Home Depot and many other places. So I'm 16 years old. It's not that I can't get a job that frustrates me the most, its that other people my age are getting hired but they are lazy type. I work extremely hard at school and get straight A's and have extra curricular activities (clubs, sports) and these people get F's D's and you know, yet I hear about them getting a job all the time. It seems like they don't give a damn at school and for some reason it seems that they can get a job so easily. I'm really annoyed. but at the same im thinking ahead. what can do to increase my chances of getting hired? where can I apply since I've already applied at tons of places? by the way I check career builder and monster everyday. and spend hours trying to fill out those applications online (they have like 200 questions) and then not get hired. any tips?? WHAT CAN I DO?  more

Voting Question: What should I look for in a Professional grade computer for Graphic Design and photo editing?

I need a computer suitable for a small business. In this business I will be editing photos with adobe photo shop. I will combine clients personal family photos/slides/home movies etc. into a digital photo disc set to music and I may include animation and flash. Potential clients will also be businesses who hire me to edit photos for printing in booklets, flyer's, brochures etc. or for web sites. I am making a savings plan / budget for when I finish college next year. I need some input. I don't really know what you need for a professional grade computer. Resolved Question: Am I wrong? Had a huge arguement with my sister in law...........?

I had a huge argument with my sister in law Saturday night. In 6 1/2 years we've never had one. She is extremely bossy adn a real diva. She recntly separated from her husband and moved back in with my mother and father in law. my husband and i have been going over there everyday to help her with the baby. we bring gifts when we can , we watch him so she can rest, and we help her set up online profiles on job sites, and help her list things on ebay so she can get some quick cash until they start going to court. i have given her outfits, and anything she needs bc she is going thru a hard time. she never says please or thank you, she starts every sentence with i need, i want, you should, etc. never may i, will you, can you, or thanks. the other day she texts me and my husband "your nephew wants to spend some time with you" mind you, he's 16 months, he doesnt know he wants to spend time with us until he sees us! lol! she cant fix her mouth to say " i need to run some errands and i need a break, will you come get the baby for awhile"? i dont mind, but this is how she is. i work thirs shift so i told her when i wake up around 1pm i will call her. i wake up at 2pm to 5 text messages saying i am rediculous and noone needs that much sleep! i work third shift! then she says in one text i cant wait all day for you while you sleep the day away! again............i work third shift! at this point i wanted to strangle her but i keep reminding myself shes going thru a rough time. so then my husband goes to get our nphew and we spend the day with him having fun. when we bring him home to her, we pack up his bag but we take one bottle out to let him drink on the car ride home. when he was done with the bottle he threw it down and it rolled under the seat. we brought him and his stuff to her and came home. when we get to our door, she calls my husband and starts yelling at him about how irresponsible we are for not returning all of his things! and ...she wants us to turn around (11pm) and bring the bottle back to her now!!!! what the hell? so i say no shes gonna have to wait till morning but my husband is like we will bring it now. so we get there and i tell her about herself. i say everyone is bending over back watds to help you and you are rude and self centered and unappreciative. she says she doesnt care what we think bc she didnt ask us for any help and her wxpectations of us are low anyway. i told her we ll dont "not" ask us to do anything else since we suck at everything. i really could have punched her in the mouth. we bought him bob the builder dvd, she says, oh he wont watch that he likes yo gabba gabba. we go on nickjr.com order yo gabba gabba, it doesnt come in 2 days she starts ounding us for it. she borrowed a dress form me and she really liked it i gave it to her she didnt say thank you. we bought him some sesame street books she doesnt like the way the sale sticker is placed over the front of the book. she's just rude!!!! my husbband totally agreed with me on the way over there to bring the bottle bak, but needless to say, he didnt say one word at the house. and is now upset with me for sharing with my friend in another state and asking her what i should do. he says im telling family business. really? to my best friend? i dont care, im sharing this with the yahoo community bc i want to know what you think.  more

Resolved Question: I don't care about anything anymore?

I don't know where to start with this. As the title says I've been lacking genuine interest in practically everything for the past year or two. One night, I just began thinking about reality, god, life and death, ect. and that was when I realised nothing matters, there was no point to it all and I had no purpose in life. I talked to the friend I trusted most, breaking my views to her slowly over msn but I didn't feel she understood me. I went to the school the next day as usual and they noticed I wasn't laughing or smiling like I usually do, they even asked what the problem was. I felt so much pity for them as they joked about how their hair became frizzy or what happened with noobs on Trickster online last night, why couldn't they see existance like I did, that there was more to everything than "the right shampoo" or getting to level 170. I was going to try and talk to them about my realisation but I knew in my heart (If I could call it that) they would laugh and never let me forget I ever said anything, so I kept my mouth shut and watched. Let me also mention that I go to an all-girls' grammar school , where most of the girls attending live very comfortable, middle-class lives that include shopping and partying every other day, this includes my friends. However, my so-called friends haven't invited me out for the past year now, but they talk about all the times they've been to town or had sleepovers with each other quite comfortably around me, even though they have all been around to my home at least twice. Another thing is that my entire year group find me hilarious because of my height. I'm 14 years old and 4'10" while they are either younger or older than me and they are all 5'4" and up. When they joke I tell them to stop but they don't, I've tried to talking to my parents and they tell me to stop being stupid and that I should be grateful that I'm alive (because I was a month premature), my head of year thinks I'm being a bit too critical of myself while the doctors I've gone to think I'm perfectly normal, but I'm not, I'm nowhere near the average height for a 14-year old girl as I have checked several times on the growth percentile charts, I've been more or less the same height for about two years now and I hate it, watching all the other girls whose parent's can afford to meet their every need, I hate watching them grow tall and slim and pretty, yet I've been stuck like this since year eight and apparently its something that is absolutely hilarious, why do they deserve to be tall and pretty? It makes me sick how they take growing up for granted, yet last month when going to purchase a train ticket with my Grandmother I said I was eleven, and so I got the cheaper ticket, I joked about this with her and it turns out she didn't know I was fourteen, yes my own Grandmother had thought I was eleven. My cousin who is twelve is 5'4" and she has gotten a lot thinner now and prettier. I'm obsessed with growth, I measure my height and weight nearly everyday, I exercise till I can barely move from the floor (now I'm limping a little) but I have little or no appetite, even watching people at school makes me feel sicky. I've actually cut myself on the outer side of my left hand with a craft knife my older brother let me have, and whenever someone mentions my height, as soon as I can be alone in my room I sit there on my bed and cut, even though I don't feel better for it afterwards but instead I feel like I've received the punishment I deserved. I wouldn't dare tell my mother what I'm typing now, she would become angry, call me mad and ungrateful, make me housework all day as punishment. Another thing is that I don't feel she loves me much , my mother. She adores my older and younger brother completely, they can talk for hours on end but with her and myself the conversations usually last ten minutes and usually end not in an argument but a disagreement on whatever subject we are discussing. It makes me very jealous of my brothers and what I don't understand is that she loves them more even though I'm the clever one with art and acheivement awards, my older brother is going to be a builder, my younger brother is Autistic and I'm expected A*-B's in all of my GCSE's. I don't want to talk to anybody at school because my mum is trying to do fostering and I don't want to ruin it for her. Sometimes I feel like ending myself but when I've locked myself in the bathroom with the knife I've stolen from the kitchen, I just can't do it, so I cry. And before all this I was an emotional rock, nothing could shake me. I'll be fifteen at the start of May and I can't see my future, theres no reason to try or fight for anything anymore, but I can't bring myself to end it. And I can't talk to anyone who will listen, not even my GP is willing to help me a little Please help I'd like to thank you all for your replies, people I don't know seem to care more than those around me all the time. I can't go talk to my mother, I don't know what to say and whenever I've tried to talk to her in the past she just tells me I'm being stupid. I just can't. I just went downstairs to her and after a few minutes of watching the television, she has started shouting at me, telling me to be grateful that I'm alive and that I'm intelligent. Now shes shouting at my dad as well, just because he was not talking while watching the television, calling him unsociable, yet he is pretty much the same man she married. I don't know what to do now, all she does is shout at either him or me most days, and the shouting doesn't stop, you can hear it throughout the house all the time.  more

Resolved Question: TV/DVD combo will not play DVDs / Wrong Disk / Disc?

Problem: A 2005 model TV/DVD combo functions fine for a few months. Suddenly, for no obvious reason, the DVD player flashes 'wrong disk' regardless of which DVD I put in it. In the meantime, the TV tuner and the two A/V hookups function fine, and the TV/DVD combo will play a DVD--only IF--I use a separate DVD player attached to one of the A/V ports. Observation after investigating the problem online: 1) This problem occurs sporadically across many different DVD models--foreign and domestic--so the issue is not 'brand specific.' 2) This has nothing to do with a 'region code,' since the DVD player once worked fine and played DVDs as it should. The DVDs were legal and not copies. The DVDs were Region 1 -- as well as the DVD player. The DVDs were legally rented or purchased for Region 1. 3) Cleaning the DVD player with a DVD cleaning kit, or with a cotton swab and alcohol makes no difference in the DVD player's response. 4) A driver upgrade or some sort of update code is not applicable because this is a DVD drive independent of a computer. These DVD drives are frequently portable (i.e. Sony), part of combo TV/DVD set (like mine) or a free-standing DVD player. These DVD drives are not part of or connected in any way to a computer hard drive. I found that the only *prospective answers* for this issue are either the good-intentioned, but misguided thoughts I've listed above--or--answers that require a membership and / or a fee before you are privy to them. This last option seems to be the most viable, since the answer is usually provided by a *certified electronics* person. I understand that paying for professional advice is fair, but why can I find information from *certified builders* and *licensed electricians* for NO FEE or MEMBERSHIP if I have a home improvement issue? Seriously, the TV/DVD player is only a couple of years old (although it is considered a 2005 model -- I bought it NEW in 2006). Through my online searching--using several different search engines and reading page after page of trouble-shooting guides and electronic forums... I found many a frustrated post from folks who have brand spankin' new DVD players (2007-08 models!) but report the same 'wrong disk' problem. I have a degree in computer science, and I have no problem rolling up my sleeves and ripping apart a hard drive or printer or scanner to attempt to make repairs--I mean seriously--after the manufacturers' warranty and the extended warranties end, what do you have to lose anyway? And, I have fixed quite a few machines by trying the advice I find in cyberspace. (I'm also comfortable working with electricity, so I highly suggest that no one tear a machine apart unless you have some basic knowledge!!) My hunch is that this DVD player is simply failing. Quality, similar to toasters, microwaves or other small appliances, has deteriorated as prices dropped. DVD players sold in the last few years are cheaply made and considered disposable by the companies who make them. So... what's my question? Can anyone give legitimate technical advice about how to remedy a 'wrong disk' error on a DVD player? If the honest response is that I should trash the DVD player and buy a new one, I'll accept that! Maybe some sage electronic advice from a knowledgeable professional out there will save lots of folks from following in my unsuccessful keystrokes! Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: What kind of Doorbell-Button am I looking for?!?

I have seen this Plastic Doorbell on Newer Homes. These Doorbell Buttons are White, with an Oval-Lighted Button. I forget if they are on Beazer Homes, West Port Homes, or KB Homes. But I think its one of those. I've tried looking on the Internet for this type of Doorbell Button, and Couldn't find it!! Lots of Expensive Brass Buttons online!! >:( Again, this is a Plastic White Push-Button Type Doorbell button, with a Lighted Oval Button. And it Lights-up as a Pinkish-Huge at night. I am Asking this, because my Doorbell Button broke recently, and I want to get this Oval one instead. If you could provide me with the Manufacture, Model #, and where to Buy, I would Really Appriciate it!! :) Again, this is a Newer-Plastic-type Doorbell, found on Many New Homes by a Populare Home Builder in Indianapolis, IN. It has a Lighted Oval-Shaped Button. Thanks in Advance!!  more

Resolved Question: How do you know if a medical transcription position is legit? ?

I have been doing medical transcription from home for about 3.5 years now (from a local clinic) and my work has been cut down greatly. I would like to find more work, but I havent seen anything for the town I live in. Ive been looking on craigslist and Career Builder for a job... there are certain places looking for medical transcriptionist(s) and my question is how do you know they are legit? I saw this ad from Los Angeles on Craigslist and I emailed and asked if they hire people across the US and they said they do, since you work at home. Well what if I was to mail in my resume, do some kind of online test, and they hire me and want me to send my info (such as taxes, drivers lisence, etc)... How do I know this isnt some kind of scam just trying to get my info so they can steal my identity? Or does anyone know if you actually have to have a face-to-face interview? Ive never tried to find a job outside of where I live, but I am kind of desperate right now (but not desperate enough to move) ! Any further info from someone who has been in a situation like this would be greatly appreciated!  more

Resolved Question: Any experience with quikrete walkmaker? Or other concrete molds?

I recently was taking a look online at some concrete molds, specifically the Quikrete walkmaker, and wondered if anyone had any experience using them. If you have, are you happy with the results? Anything you like/dislike about them? Things you tried that worked...or wish you had tried? We have a new home, which has a concrete slab covered patio, but now we wish we had the builder pour more and extend it to the end of the house. I would like to do a patio area and possibly some pathways...something that would add a bit of a different contrast to the concrete slab, but still transition well from it. My husband just wants to hire someone to pour another slab of concrete to extend it...but I like the idea of more of a patterned look for something different. Also, I'm really cheap, and I figure it's going to cost between $1600-$2000 to get concrete poured. I would love to do something myself and save on that. I would like to do about 200 sq. ft. Do you think that this option does save some money? Or is it just as expensive as using pre-made pavers or pouring concrete? Another thing that I wondered if I could save time and/or money on was the base under them. We have rock-solid ground that is nearly impossible to dig. From what I understand, the walkmaker can be installed directly on top of cleared ground. I thought this might prevent some digging and having to buy fill rock/sand for the base. If you have used the molds, did you install it right on top of the ground or dig out a base for them?  more

Resolved Question: Seabee Builder help?

I'm considering enlisting in the Navy Reserve as a Seabee Builder. The descriptions I've read about this rating's duties online have been very broad in scope and I was just wondering if Builders specialize in certain areas, such as carpentry or masonry, or if they're kind of a jack of all trades when it comes to constructions. Also, how has your experience as a Builder in the Navy been? Would you say your training is applicable in the civilian world (i.e. home improvement)? Any other insight into this rating would be appreciated! Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: any one eant tips on building a computer?

just though id leave tips for anyone planning on making their own computer: Basic Hardware Info: There are several main parts builders need to know: the motherboard, CPU, power supply, RAM, video card, case, hard drives, optical/floppy drives, and sound cards. Most people believe that you build a system around the CPU, an AMD or Intel processer chip. That's incorrect. A builder knows that when you build a PC, it's based off of the motherboard. The motherboard is pretty much like a human skeletal system: EVERYTHING is put together from it. The first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of a PC you want to build: Are you building a basic computer, to do Word and Excel and some web browsing? Or a pimped out, ultimate gaming rig? Or how about a nice Home Entertainment PC? Once you figure that out, you can then select the parts you will need. The big differences between these three is: 1) You only need basic parts for the basic computer, nothing extravagant. Don't need a dedicated GPU (video card), when only a built-in GPU will work fine. Cheapest system to make, really. 2) You are going for the best bang for the buck or the highest priced parts available today. Budget gamers, and mid-gamers aim for the best bang for the buck method, sometimes building a system around the idea of using a certain part that they want (ex. they get the best video card they can, and skimp on the other parts as best as they can). 3) A HTPC (Home Theater PC) can be more expensive than a typical gamer's rig because of the essential component in this PC: Silence. A HTPC is made to be like TIVO; go through TV channels, but you can also burn/record them onto your hard drive, and you can even do some web browsing on that nice 50" Samsung LCD HDTV you bought a month ago. As such, HTPC makers biggest focus is on the CASE because that defines how big of a system they can make, and how much cooling they can get while putting as much of the best parts into it the case can handle. As you can see, these 3 basic building functions are very diverse and different from each other. HOWEVER, thats just the pure build idea; a budget PC can be a budget gaming rig; and a decent gaming rig can also second as a HTPC. It comes down to how you build it and what you use. Now, we're going to work on the assumption that you are building a gaming rig, like most of us do. 1) The motherboard. YOU MUST DECIDE two things before selecting a motherboard, IMHO. A) Intel or AMD? If you're worried about the flat dollar amount of the build, go with AMD as their CPUs are, AT THE MOMENT, cheaper. Bang for the buck, or best you can get, methods of buying will mean getting an Intel chip. Preferably a Core2Duo chip that's based off their new FSB 1333MHz standard, and not the old 1066MHz. B) Graphic card: NVIDIA or AMD (originally ATI until it was bought by AMD). You can SLI your video card, or Crossfire it, which are two different methods of using 2 PCI-E video cards from Nvidia or AMD. Most of us use NVIDIA, though there are some good bang-for-the-buck models from AMD. There are several brands of motherboard makers out there today: ECS, Biostar, ASUS, Gigabyte, and Intel to name a few. They all offer various functions and features, and warranties. Personally, I like Gigabyte bc of their warranties, and they've been more reliable for me than ASUS been (I've used 2 different Gigabyte boards without a single failure, whereas Asus 1 and only did die on me). Other things to make sure about: Make sure the mobo you select supports DDR2, and even DDR3 speeds for RAM. Currently, the standard is now DDR2 800MHz RAM, but more and more of us are using DDR2 1066MHz RAM for that extra OOMPH! Just remember the two things you decided upon earlier, and your choice of MOBOs are cut in half. 2) CPU: Now, whichever socket the motherboard you bought supports, is the kind of CPU you need to buy. You bought a quad-core Intel chip for $300, but skimped on the motherboard and bought it for only $20. Oh no! The mobo isn't the type of socket you needed; it's an old P4 model, not the model that can support that quad chip of yours. LGA775 is the standard socket for Intel Core2Duo chips, currently. AMD's is Socket AM2. Intel has gone from a 90, even a 65nm chip (the size of the chip) down to a 45nm chip. These new chips need less power and gives off less heat, but they do SO MUCH MORE processsing power, that whatever power and heating was saved is gone as you abuse and use that chip for everything in gaming. The sweet spot today for Intel chips, in my opinion, is the E6750, a 2.66GHz, core2duo chip, dual core and above, including the new 8000 series from Intel (the 8200 would be the 45nm equivalent of the 65nm 6750). AMD Im out on the loop of, but there a number of great price-performance ratio CPUs on the market today. 3) Power Supply. There's one rule of thumb here with a PSU: You get what you buy! There is absolutely NO POINT in buying the best PC parts in the world if your PSU is a POS. If a PC requires more power than given by a PSU, not only will it NOT run, but it may also fry and take your expensive $200 motherboard and $300 video card with it. There are several reliable manufacturers on the market, and RELIABILITY is the biggest pricing concern with PSUs. Targan, PC Power and Cooling, those two are the creme of the crop in PSU manufacturers. However, to get that nice 850 watt PSU from PC-PC, you;'re gonna fork over $180. A tad bit pricey. There are some budget PSUs on the market with good reliability, so they're cheaper than others (just not as good). Depending on the build, a decent gaming rig will want AT LEAST 550 watts of power, and you need to make sure it has the cables you need to power everything correctly. I hit a roadblock when my PSU didnt have the necessary power (500 watt PSU) to power everything in my PC when I upgraded from a 6600GT 128MB video card to a 8800 GTS 320MB vid card. Ending up getting a "patch," a dedicated GPU PSU, which has the necessary cable attachments to plug and power it. Beats spending another 80 bucks over the "patch's" price. 4 RAM. One of the easiest, and hardest choices, to make. Simple because you really only need to, or should, buy is DDR2 800MHz. It's hardest because first off, you gotta deal with ALL of the different RAM makers out there; GEIL, Patriot, OCZ, Corsair.. the list goes on and on. AND on top of that, there are MULTIPLE models for each RAM standard; Geil has like a dozen different models that fits under the DDR2 800MHz classification. AND on top of that too, do you want to stick with 800MHz or maybe cut a few bucks, and go only with DDR2 533 or 667MHz, or maybe spend a few more for that DDR2 1GHz RAM? 5) Video card: Only two manufacturers for these babies; AMD and Nvidia. AND though they have multiple models, most of them are based off the PCI-E socket, and don't overlap each other in performance or price... usually. However, these two are Direct Competitors, so when one offers $150 over-performing video card, the other will certainly try to match, or beat, it. Or maybe give you slightly reduced power at a bigger reduce price. Personally, I recommend NVIDIA as they have the best performing video cards on the market. This is an easy hardware part to review for because you really gotta worry about two things only: PRICE, and performance. And to do that, well price is easy, just look online and see the prices. Performance? Anandtech.com, tomshardware.com, etc etc. Such sites give you video card performance comparisons. So you can see for yourself how good they are. 6) Case. There a variety of cases, but lets stick to the simplest three: HTPC Case, Mid-tower, and Full tower. HTPC are usually short in height, with long lengths and widths. Almost like a TIVO box, so to speak. Mid-tower and Full tower cases are what you are more familiar with. These are the cases that are rectangular with narrow widths, but moderate to big height and lengths. And obviously, a full tower is just bigger than a mid-tower. There are over 20 different case manufacturers listed on newegg.com, but there are certain brands that are better than the rest: Apevia, Antec, Thermaltake, Lian-Li. These manufacturers have built reliable, and performing, cases for a gamer, and though their prices can be high, its bc of the reliablility and brand rep that manufacturer has. The biggest concern with a case is: how big are the parts are you buying, and how do you want to cool them. If you're getting a dual-slot video card, sound card, full size motherboard (yes, there are smaller motherboards), several optical and hard drives... you will need a full tower just to cram all that stuff in. But if you got a single slot video card, one HDD, 1 or 2 optical drives, etc. etc. You may only need a mid-tower. Anyways, I prefer full towers as they have better cooling, and just the extra room I can use for future upgrades. They are HEAVY to carry around, but its good exercise. That's the biggest tradeoff between the two: weight (and price too). Additionaly, I look for a case with at least one 120mm fan. Now, the cooling concept is NOT how many fans you got, but how much airflow you can get. 2x120mm fans have better airflow than 3, even 4x80mm fans. Not to mention that they give off a lot less noise; it takes less rpm for a 120mm fan to generate the amount of airflow a 80mm fan does at full speed. Other features in a case to look for: hinge doors with locks, location of the USB, and sound ports in the front, and case windows. This is where personal style really does take effect as people normally only see the case; getting a case with a window, however, will let them see inside it and add a few cathode lights, it looks AWESOME! 7) The hard drives, optical/floppy drives, and sound cards are easy parts in comparison to the first six to understand. Hard drive is like your brain; it stores ALL the information you got. There are several kinds of HDDs on the market; only two to worry about today, really, maybe three, are IDE, SATA, and SSDs. IDE and SATA drives are called that based of the connection they use; either an IDE or SATA connection. Recommendation: Stick with the SATA drives as SATA connections are faster than IDEs (and easier to install!). SSD means Solid-State Drives. This is a new hard drive developed and produced on the market today based off of the RAM/Flash storage concepts. Regular hard drives has several, moving parts in it, reducing their reliability, and thus the reason why system errors can develop over time; the hard drive is just slowly dying out. A SSD, on the other hand, has NO moving parts and is pretty much RAM technology, configured as a hard drive. Only problem is that these babies are EXPENSIVE, and not that big. A 750GB Sata HDD can cost about $120, whereas a 30GB SSD can cost about $300. See the problem? The biggest saving grace about SSD is their speed, having 4x the read/write speeds of a regular HDD at times. Testing has shown that where it may take several seconds for Windows to load on a regular hard drive, you can't time a SSD's loading time as Windows just pops up immediately. It's THAT FAST. Anyways, Look for AT LEAST a 250GB SATA hard drive, 7200rpm (not 5400). Faster RPM means faster speed, but reduced reliability as well, and more power being consumed. 7200RPM is today's standard, and 250GB will work for most people's needs. HOWEVER, if you save a lot of data, look for more storage if you can, and don't forget, you can put several hard drives into the same PC. Only one HDD needs to have an OS installed on it, while the rest are just storage drives for it. I got 2x320GB hard drives, and 1x750GB hard drive. Only one of my 320GB drives has Windows on it, the rest are filled up with movies, music, and games. (Ask Elwoodini how much storage you have, it's insane!) You know what optical drives are: A CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-/+RW, or Blu-Ray. Simplest answer: Just buy a DVD-/+RW drive, or two, unless you want to play HD movies on  more

Resolved Question: Where can I find work on a daily basis?

Hi there. I am in Newport News VA, and I am looking to suppliment my income as an ops manager on my days off with some day labor. I called the agencies and they say that pay starts at 7 per hour. Yeah right. Anyway, I have looked everywhere I can think of: Craigslist, carreer builder, newspapers, online classifieds, and friends. No one seems to know where I can go to work for the day, and be paid decently for my time and hard work. Do people still hang out in front of home depot and get contractors to hire them for the day? I guess I could do that. Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. I want to buy a motorcycle, and I would really rather not be paying high interest on a loan, or waiting 5 months starving myself to get the money I need. Thanks again. Oh yeah. BTW. All you home based internet get rich from your reclining chair in your living room pushing people should all die a horrible death. Dont bother posting on my question. Did it SEEM in the description that I was an idiot? Geez. The question is up for 3 seconds and I already have spam on it. Great.  more

Resolved Question: Is the potential US future with Barack Obama being played out by Gordon Brown's UK?

Similar to Obama, Gordon Brown has not met a tax hike he didn't approve of. The effects of which are taking a toll on the UK's economy. You can see for yourself what the future would bring should he be elected POTUS. "The British labor market is buckling under the weight of higher interest rates, accelerating inflation and sinking confidence. Unemployment -- traditionally the final symptom of a downturn -- has risen steadily for the past four months in the U.K. to 5.3% of the work force as of April, according to official data. Behind the government statistics are growing corporate layoffs as profits plummet. As the housing slump worsens, U.K. home builders Barratt Developments PLC and Taylor Wimpey PLC last week said they will together cut nearly 2,000 jobs. Real-estate agents, mortgage brokers and other service providers have all followed the financial sector by laying off workers in recent weeks. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121538685030831063.html?mod=todays_us_page_one The first signs of a taxpayer revolt came last October. With Mr. Brown poised to call an election to capitalize on his momentum in the polls, the Conservatives announced they would exempt the first £1 million (U.S. $1.95 million) from inheritance tax. It sent an electric shock through the electorate. Mr. Brown called off the election and his poll numbers tanked. The tipping point came in March. Through the winter, Labour had clawed back some of the Conservatives' poll lead. Then came the annual budget. Steep hikes in annual car taxes – dressed up as measures to help cool the planet – took the levy on some family cars up to £400 a year. Labour's ratings started to slide. They went into free-fall when people realized that Mr. Brown's abolition of the 10% starter rate of income tax actually had the effect of raising taxes on the lower paid. Something big is happening in British politics: Taxation has re-emerged center stage. And as an issue, taxes favor the Tories. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121331641161470097.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries FDM215 - have you ever answered a question with any intellectual thought?  more

Resolved Question: building a home (on my lot) - how do i begin estimating costs?

i was really considering remodeling my old home. It's a great location and the neighborhood continues to get better. Having notice several homes get torn down and rebuilt by the original owners, I'm also going to look into that option. Does anyone have experience with building their own home - or having one built- that would like to share? Does anyone know of a place online I can go to find out how much I'm looking at? I mean besides hiring a builder to come draw up plans and do an estimate! *lol* Feel free to share you home building joy and horror stories. I'm open to it all. (and I'm not talking about a home from like a Perry or KB homes.. if I do this it would be with a builder that does custom and environmentally sound homes) WHY am I considering building over remodeling you ask.. well: my home is nerly 60yrs old. it's of AMAZING construction with lots of original details (original hardwoods, solid wood doors, glass doorknobs, etc) but it's old and needs updating. the pipes need to be pulled due to sediment and rust, the bathroom needs to be upgraded, as well as the kitchen. i would like a few interior walls moved, new flooring in the rear family room and new hardwoods in the dining room (a garage conversion that has concrete floors). but the REAL killer is - i need new windows.. and those alone could run me $15K (I had 5 estimates and I have 27 windows in my home) so considering the expense of all those elements combined - wouldn't it just make sense to start over? I would save a lot of the original hardwoods, wood doors, cedar shingles and cedar paneling to use int he new house (hopefully that's possible)  more

Resolved Question: Trying to gain lean mass need help with wut kinds of nutrition to take.?

I researched that Creatine is great for the muscle. It said it doesn't have any long term effect that causes any harm to the body. I am skinny and weak for my age and I want to workout so i can have more self-confidence. Are there any other nutrition that I should take besides creatine? I want to take nutritions that doesn't have any side effects like this one. I used to have a lot of energy until i masturbated everyday, which I finally stopped doing. But I lost all my energy from doing that kind of thing so I need more nutrition. I get sleepy if i sit down and do nothing for few minutes (guessing cause i'm weak). I want to be like the body builders on television or like Arnold Schwarznegher (sp). I found a workout routine online and started doing it at home. My e-mail is k33pitez@hotmail.com if you want to send me information about nutrition or workout routines that I should do please send them to me. I would be very grateful for your time. Also I was told to take L-Glutamine and whey protein. I researched these and i found no negative side effects so I'm going to take this with Creatine. Please tell me if i should take something else or if these are good. I'm 18. Have been training at my house (bench set, dumbells, pushup bar) I have been slacking off because I trained and I didn't see any results which is why i want to take more nutrition so i can actually see the change. I have been doing pushups in middle school 20~30 every night but nothing really changed. I get really jealous when I see ripped or buff dudes at my school. I always get motivated when I watch UFC of k1. I hate how my body is so skinny! In fact, my butt hurts when i sit down on a chair! This never happened before when I was in middle school. As soon as i became a high schooler, I started sitting down and playing computer games for 6~8 hours which I believe is causing this pain when i sit down now. Hope these are enough information. Please send an e-mail if you want to message me or tell me other information I should know in order to gain mass muscle.  more

Resolved Question: Should I hire an attorney to sue my home builder? No one answers the phone at their office and we need help!?

My husband and I purchased our home in 2001,we have had constant problems with our builder and we don't know where to go from here. Neither of us has ever sued anyone and we don't even know if it would do any good? Large and small things have gone wrong since the day we moved in. The first thing that happened was that they painted our house the wrong color. We came to do an inspection and we had it in writing that our house was to be painted blue and when we arrived it was yellow. They had no explanation. They did give us some free upgrades to try and make us feel better but it was a huge irritating shock. Next we noticed that our home address was not listed anywhere online, our address did not exist according to our county. We did some research and found out they had put the wrong street sign on our house so our house was recorded as a different address than it was numbered as. They also were supposed to do numerous repairs that they started and never finished, we have it in writing. This isnt something that we have just started trying to get resolved we have been dealing with this company every year with no end in sight. They would send reps to our house who would put our complaints in writing and then never hear a thing from them for 6 months. In 2005 they finally sent a handyman to our house to start repairs and after 2 weeks he left without finishing anything. In fact he left some things looking worse. In 2006 the company was sold and when we contacted the new builder they said they would get back to us. They never did and after a ton of phone calls we were told that our community was one of the few that was not sold. We have been trying to get a hold of someone at the old builder for over a year they do not answer their phone. We have a 10 year warranty that has not been honored.  more

Resolved Question: Who are some reputable but inexpensive new home builders in Ontario Canada?

We're thinking seriously about moving to Canada but all of the home builders we've seen online seem really deluxe (read: high-priced) as compared with some of the home builders we've looked at in Chicago. We just don't really know where to start looking and would appreciate some help. Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Best way to open up first website business?

I'm wanting to start my own website store online to sell products I make from home. I've never made a website before and don't really know anything about how to. I'm not very computer savvy. I've heard that there are some really good sites online that are affordable and have easy to use website builders for a monthly charge. I'm trying to find out if using these are a good idea and will give you a nice looking website. If so which sites are the best to use for beginners and which ones have the best information to help beginners learn how to run their site such as promoting it,upkeep, etc? I'm just really interested in making a nice online store for my home bussiness and need help learning to do so. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.  more

Resolved Question: New home; tried to do a "change of address", but postal service doesn't recognize new address. What do I do?

Just bought a new home, the only one on a newly constructed side street off of a main road. I tried to do an address change online, but the new address isn't being recognized by US Postal Service system. The builder listed the house under this new address, so why doesn'tt the postal service recognize it and is there anything I can do to make this address exist for the postal service? The mail carrier that comes by here doesn't know what I need to do.  more

Resolved Question: how to build muscle mass and maintain my weight loss?

im an 18 year old male, and i weigh 300lbs , my weightloss regime is going really well, but i really want to gain some much needed muscle mass whilst i loose weight. i have been going to the gym 4-5 times a week and do an hour and a half of intese cardiovascular exercise, i then move onto the weight training machines but i have not had much success in building muscle. i know that building muscle mass takes time and im willing to commit, i have noticed the regulars at my gym that i saw from the beggining have improved dramatically (muscle wise). i dont want to be extremely muscley like a body builder, but i do want at least to be well toned and have some clear muscle definition. im becoming increasingly put off by the weight meachines and am moving onto free weights which i can do at home, is there anything that has worked for any of you using free wights and any guides online guides that you would recomend, also diet advice, incresed cals arent an option because of my weight loss.  more

Resolved Question: homestead.com site builder?

I've tried to use their photo album, and whenever I check it in my browser, the border and captions display, but for all my images it says "this image has been moved or deleted", when they have not. I've been trying to get some help from their help center, but they just keep giving me the run around that it is my computer not their program - apparently they can see the album work fine online, but on my computers at work and at home they all show me an error. Any ideas? http://www.stpaulmbcsj.org/photogallery/pastorwife2006/  more
