moreOpen Question: question about ponies and exercise?
i work part time at a local RDA club (riding for the disabled) some of our horses are a little overweight so we control their diet and restrict their grazing. But being RDA horses they don't exactly have to do anything too difficult like galloping, cantering or jumping. should we be exercising them more regularly as well as their RDA lessons?
yeah they do work fairly hard, just like any school pony, they are involved in a lot of games and exercises (trotting poles, gymkhana etc) just not at any fats pace. We keep all the horses out in the fields, we have rubber floors in the stalls because they are only in there between lessons which run every morning-afternoon and a few evenings a couple of times a week.
the rest of the time they are all out in the pasture, some use this as a time to run around, others just to eat or rest.
we do take them out for long hacks occasionally, and we do have a few small jumps. the horses have to be constantly monitored so we know they are safe for the riders. we had to sell one because he threw a leader and a rider off in the arena before.
most of them i'm not too worried about, it's just we have a very small one, about 11hh who is getting on a bit, a favourite at the yard, but can now only take 7 stone which rules most people out

moreOpen Question: Feeding a dog - raw diet over dried food?
I read so many questions on here about feeding a dog a raw diet as it is more natural for a dogs digestive system.
I have tried this and i dont agree i have 1 young girl who was the runt (4oz pup) and has always had a ''sensitive tummy'' since being tiny, my 3 others all have a very good digestive system and never have diarrhoea.
However when i tried to feed raw diet i tried it for 3 months all of my girls had runny poos at some time or another not constantly but at least 1 of them had diarrheoa at least once a week and the one with a sensitive tummy was pooing water.
Has anyone else tried raw diet and found it to be not as good an alternative as dried food? I certainly would not recommend it! Just curious to see if anyone else has had same thing.
Its ok saying dont give my opinion but you all seem very quick to say how good it is people should know the pros and the cons to it. I have switched back to dried food and mix in now cooked meat as i always did.
The 3 main meats i fed raw were chicken, rabbit, fish and beef.
The fish seemed to be the better option but i still would not recommend it.
moreOpen Question: Do i really need to do the GI diet ?
Have been told my dietician at my gp surgery, that there is as far as she knows no particular diet that you need to follow to lose weight with pcos, and she just told me to eat smaller portions and the brown carbs, and to not have any food that has more than 8gms of fat or 10grms of sugar in it per 100gms, and she said that this way i'll over time consume less calories, plus will be better for me as cutting down on sugar will help with pcos and insulin resistance. But i feel like when i'm doing this i'm just stuffing my face with whatever i can find that fits under the rules, making me eat alot and have a big stomach.
Was told not to do atkins as need permanant change, but do find cutting all carbs helps. But then think that whatever i'm doing should still be watching calories, but then if i just follow a low calorie diet i will be eating things that insulin wise will not be good for me.
Gynaecologist told me that there is no specific diet needed just to lose the weight is main thing!
So am stuck in a rut, should i do low gi, but then i find it hard sticking to things you can have, especially meals, and when on the go.
Should i do low calorie or what dietician told me??
Please would like positive answers and from personal exp would be great!

moreOpen Question: How can I lose weight?
I'm a teenager aged 17, 5ft11 & 14st 9lbs.
My weight should be 12st 5lbs - I'm 2st 4lbs overweight.
I started gym in March. I have lost NO weight since (on the plus side, nor gained).
All I normally eat is 300kcal for breakfast. 400-600kcal for tea. Then 200-300kcal at night.
Roughly around 1,200kcal when I should be eating 2,500kcal a day & I lose around 500kcal at the gym.
So I'm confused... I work out for about an hour Mon-Sat & eat less than I should, yet I've not even lost a lb since I started in March.
I use the gym scales (which is accurate & cost to use). It costs me £16.50 a month yet nothing is happening so I've QUIT.
I feel fitter in myself but I want it show on the outside too.
I don't eat healthy as it's my mum who buys the food & says "other people live here too" as she buys crisps, chocolate etc. which frustrates & tempts me (I still only eat 1,200kcal a day though). Now I'm 50/50 on whether to just ditch watching my diet & "enjoy" food since I'm not losing weight...
DESPERATE FOR HELP!
Sorry for it being so long, just needed you to know how my diet is so you can give me some decent advice, hopefully!

moreOpen Question: im not sure why but...?
ive always thought of myself as fat, even when i actually wasnt and recently ive become obsessed with weight. at christmas i became bulimic, but didnt last long because of the physical strain of purging/eating. so i then just gave up, didnt eat but didnt do too much excercise either. im now 15, 5ft 3 and my bmi is about 20. if it goes below 19.5 it means im underweight, which doesnt make sense because im actually not that slim, even people have told me im average.
i discovered a pro-ana site. and i know they can be extremely dangerous but there was a support group and everything that was mentioned i was going through/thinking/feeling etc. i made some friends and now we are all helping each other get to the weight we want.
i have been excercising/fasting/dieting etc and alltogether lost about 15lb in 2 weeks. which brought my bmi down to 20.
im on a liquid fast at the moment, i started yesterday and end it on next tuesday. but parents are going crazy at me and forcing me to eat unhealthy food such as pizza, and i have already asked them if i can have healthier options but they just wont listen no matter what.
i do excercise often aswell but often pass out from lack of energy, my friends notice a difference in me aswell, they say i look drained and losing to much weight in little time.
i cant stop, and i dont have a ED. i just have too much going on at the moment to do anything else.
does anyone think i have the beginnings of anerexia? im trying to prove to my parents that i dont.

moreOpen Question: I think I have a fear of meat!?
This is a little strange but I'm at a loss to try and explain it.
Ever since I was little (I'm now 23) I've disliked meat. I like the piss-poor quality meat like sausages and beef burgers but not decent meat like pork chops or steak. Recently I've been trying to eat different things in the hope of improving my diet but whenever I try and eat meat I cant do it. It repulses me and there have been occasions where I have nearly thrown up. I'm a big fan of curries and there have been times when I had issues even eating that.
I'm not a vegetarian, and I'm not even remotely interested in becoming one. I've never had a bad experience involving meat. I've tried meat substitutes and I don't like them either - although not as strongly.. It just looks like I hate meat.
Has anyone else ever had this problem or something similar? Is it even possible to have a phobia of meat? Is there any such thing as a natural-born vegetarian?
I also have an issue with soft or mushy food like cold pasta or cheese. Anything which I cannot easily chew or swallow can make me retch.
I think mind not liking it - I certainly don't force myself to eat it. However, what I'm trying to do it understand WHY I have just problems with it be it bio-chemical, psychological or something else.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: you're absolutely correct. I hate crowds; loud noises or being touched. Neither do I like felt or the sound of brushing!
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: I've been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and have been a loner all of my life. I have great difficulty in dealing with others; emotions are difficult for me (I either feel them strongly or not at all); and I once scored 36 on a test for Aspergers.

I'm nearly 21, so I doubt it's puberty.
moreOpen Question: I exercise and eat well. Why am I gaining weight?
I know a lot of people claim to exercise and eat healthy but I REALLY do. I never diet (this encourages weight gain) but instead I eat whole grains, lots of veg and fruits, drink lots of water, a little coffee/tea and less than 14 units alcohol per week. I've gone to the trouble of adding up just how many calories I burn on average through exercise - a whopping 400 per day. Despite this, I have noticed my belly, thighs and arms inflating steadily over the past several weeks.
Also for the past few weeks, I've had a constant pain in my left ovary and wind. I've always had a lot of pain during periods and ovulation but it normally doesn't last this long. Anyway, the doc is now doing CA 125 and coeliac tests (for cancer and gluten intolerance). He's already done thyroid and diabetes tests which came back normal. I'm only 31 and scared by the thought that there could be something seriously wrong with my ovaries. So I guess I'd like to hear from other people who've had my symptoms and find out what their diagnosis was, so I can get an idea of what to expect from these tests.
Thanks!
p.s. I doubt it's pregnancy as I've been having normal periods... but I haven't been tested for that yet so I'll check it out

Hi, I want to lose some weight, and for a number of practical and emotional reasons, believe a meal replacement, SlimFast type diet would be best for me.
However, I have 2 daughters, aged 5 and 1, and with the summer holidays coming up, they'll see that I'm not having the same food as them, and it's a dead cert that the older one will ask about it. There seems to be so much in the media about how even very young girls are becoming worried about and fixated on weight issues and being fat. (They are both ideal weight for their height)

but if this is the case then why would the people that kill animals for food go unpunished? that is just as unessecary as any other form of animal torture is it not?
as many people can survive on a vegetarien diet. and not eat meat.

moreOpen Question: My 1000 calorie diet, opinions, good or bad?
Basically im determined to lose weight the way i feel is right and suits me not what everyone else recommends and so on because none of it has worked for me and this has been doing the job well...
I don't have to lose a dramatic amount of weight just roughly 20lbs.
My diet basically is A bowl of muesli and a glass of orange juice in the morning and a full tin of chicken casserole for dinner.
It roughly comes to 1000 calories, low in fat and carbs and very high in protein and Fibre.
Also i burn off 800 calories on the cross trainer on high intensity and do a different range of crunches all before breakfast.
Now yes i know that 1000 calories is lower than recommended and yes i know people recommend you should eat small but often but the small and often thing doesn't suit me and the 1000 calories is enough for me! ...well 2 weeks on i feel fine and im never hungry!... im female 5 foot 2 and 18 years old, im just under average height as well so i think a 1000 calories is a perfect amount to keep me going and not reach the starvation mode.
But i still would appreciate all opinions good and bad on this =] thanks.
And i have one tin and lunch and one for dinner... should of added that as well lmao
I actually ment to say i have 2 tins not 1
Plus i have the same thing daily cause i dont get bored of it.
